Well, I'm Tired - Day 2

It's Day 2! Yesterday wiped me the heck out. After camp, I went to another writing group in the math department, so I spent 5 straight hours writing my thesis. I was pretty useless after that. Thank the Lord for my husband who made me dinner.

Relying on myself for energy isn't going to get this work done. I need the Lord to interfere and fuel me for the next 44 days (and the rest of my life). "Give us this day our daily bread... and do  not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one." Temptation is distraction, anxiety, failure. Lord, keep me from these things and give me what I need to succeed.

Goals

Today, I will
  1. Sort out the homotopy cancelation section. It's long, but it's mostly edited already.
  2. Write up what I have on the new formatting for the proof.

Reflection

9:59 - Goal 1 was quite a bit easier than I anticipated. I realized that I need to move an example to a later part of the paper. Otherwise, we're good to go! That means I have 28 pages of my dissertation edited.

12:56 - I had a breakthrough with the new notation. I want to get back to it. I think I see what Ben meant! Time to go get more coffee from Encounter.

15:16 - IT WORKS!!!! Celebrated with an S Club 7 dance party across the Pentacrest. It's exciting when math comes together. What a high. I'm going to spend some time writing up what I figured out (so I don't forget it), but I'm going home relatively soon to get boxes for our move. Real truth - it's hard to work on my real life when I'm this in-the-depths of thesis writing.

Hey Y'all, I am done with working on my thesis. I use the word "done" here not to indicate that it's complete, but rather that I'm exhausted. My brain does not like working on this any more. In the past two weeks, I've overhauled my draft, added another chapter, and made countless images to make the paper more understandable. It's definitely better having been edited, but man. I'm tired. Editing - 26 DTD

Hey y'all! I'm in an editing groove for my dissertation today. I've got a cup of coffee and a couple reviewers (read: my husband and academic siblings) on standby to make sure I'm making sense. My advisor returns tomorrow, so I'm hoping to make this version as polished as possible today. It's going to be a long day, but it will be a good one. Goals Today, I will... Edit chapter 4 for clarity and flow. Edit chapter 5 for content and clarity.  Make figures (if by some miracle I have time). Reflection 10:38 - The Panera in the mall really has come at the best possible time. I work very well when fueled by coffee and bagels, but also it's a major money sink. I've implemented the feedback in chapters 1-3 that Taco gave me, and am about halfway through chapter 4 editing. I Fought the Printer - Day 8

Ahoy Writers! This morning, I printed out a copy of my dissertation. The printer was *not* being cooperative, yet I came out on top after threatening it with bodily harm and realizing that when it said "load tray 1" it meant to put paper in tray 1, not tray 2. BUT! I have my dissertation printed! This makes me extraordinarily happy. It's something tangible, that I can see I accomplished. That's motivating. GOALS Flesh out more of my inductive case argument.  Go through the print out of my dissertation and label wherever I need to do something with post its. Having a plan is essential to success. Reflection 10:31 - UGH. It's only 10:30. I've been writing for an hour and, admittedly, the inductive step is significantly more fleshed out right now. But MAN I don't want to keep writing.
